Janet Katherine Eldred Wagnon

Janet Katherine Eldred Wagnon was born on November 9, 1937, in San Diego, California, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended both Texas Christian University and Austin College.

While attending Arlington Heights High School, Janet met the love of her life, John Alva Wagnon. After graduation, John enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea. Upon his return, they were married and began building a life together.

In 1962, shortly after the birth of their daughter Pamela, the family moved from Austin to Dallas. John began his career with E-Systems, and Janet embraced her role as a full-time homemaker with joy and purpose. She was actively involved in her community—volunteering at Presbyterian Hospital, serving as a political delegate, Bluebird leader, PTA representative, and classroom mother. As Pamela entered high school, Janet continued her support by serving as Senior Mother for the Class of 1977. She welcomed many young people into her home, offering guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Katie and Wendell Eldred; her brother, David Eldred; and her beloved husband, John Alva Wagnon, who passed away in 1990. She faced the future with courage and grace, continuing to live a life of purpose—as a devoted mother, generous neighbor, dedicated volunteer, and cherished friend to many.

She found deep joy in nature, art, and books. A skilled gardener and talented artist, Janet had an eye for beauty and a heart for service.

A longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Janet quietly engaged in what she called “God’s secret work.” She was honored to embroider altar linens by hand-loving every stitch-and took great care in arranging altar flowers to those in need of comfort or cheer. For many years, she also taught others the delicate art of folding Palm Sunday crosses, a simple but meaningful ministry she deeply valued.

A service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 848 Harter Rd. All are invited to gather afterward for Fajitas and Fellowship—a joyful celebration that reflects her love of community and connection.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. John's Episcopal Church in her memory.

A final quote from Ms. Wagnon:

"Family and friends were the focus of my life."
